The New Emperor

An emperor is someone who lead his people to develop their kingdom. He, with his absolute power, plays a great role in creating such a better life for his people. Once the emperor made a wrong policy, there would be many negative impacts happened; many people would suffer because of it. Hence, the emperor must be intelligent; both intellectually and emotionally. It means that he has not only a smart brain in order to be able to conduct quite a heavy duty on his shoulder, but also an excellent personality to decide everything wisely.
For honesty is one of the most valuable personality traits that a leader, an emperor, has to possess, we will find out what a unique way done to find out the New Emperor.....

Once there was an emperor in the Far East who was growing old and knew it was coming time to choose his successor. Instead of choosing one of his assistants or one of his own children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young people in the kingdom together one day. He said, "It has come time for me to step down and to choose the next emperor. I have decided to choose one of you." The kids were shocked! But the emperor continued. "I am going to give each one of you a seed today. One seed. It is a very special seed. I want you to go home, plant the seed, water it and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from this one seed. I will then judge the plants that you bring to me, and the one I choose will be the next emperor of the kingdom!

"There was one boy named Ling who was there that day, and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly told his mother the whole story. She helped him get a pot and some planting soil, and he planted the seed and watered it carefully. Every day he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other youths began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow. Ling kept going home and checking his seed, but nothing evergrew. Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by. Still nothing. By now others were talking about their plants but Ling didn't have a plant, and he felt like a failure. Six months went by, still nothing in Ling's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Ling didn't say anything to his friends. However, he just kept waiting for his seed to grow.

A year finally went by and all the youths of the kingdom brought their plants to the emperor for inspection. Ling told his mother that he wasn't going to take an empty pot. But she encouraged him to go, and to take his pot, and to be honest about what happened. Ling felt sick to his stomach, but he knew his mother was right. He took his empty pot to the palace. When Ling arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by all the other youths. They were beautiful, in all shapes and sizes. Ling put his empty pot on the floor and many of the other kids laughed at him. A few felt sorry for him and just said, "Hey, nice try."

When the emperor arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted the young people. Ling just tried to hide in the back. "My, what great plants, trees and flowers you have grown," said the emperor. "Today, one of you will be appointed the next emperor!" All of a sudden, the emperor spotted Ling at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered his guards to bring him to the front. Ling was terrified. "The emperor knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will have me killed!" When Ling got to the front, the Emperor asked his name. "My name is Ling," he replied. All the kids were laughing and making fun of him. The emperor asked everyone to quiet down. He looked at Ling, and then announced to the crowd, "Behold your new emperor! His name is Ling!"Ling couldn't believe it. Ling couldn't even grow his seed. How could he be the new emperor?

Then the emperor said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone here a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds which would not grow. All of you, except Ling, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grown, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Ling was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new emperor!"

A Story About Love

Love means happiness

Love brings sadness

Love needs knowledge

Love takes time

Love requires understanding

Love asks for sacrifices

When we devoted our time to love…

We’ll find out how wonderful this life would be….

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others, including Love. One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all constructed boats and left. Except for Love.

Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to hold out until the last possible moment.
When the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help.
Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said,
"Richness, can you take me with you?"
Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you."
Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. "Vanity, please help me!"
"I can't help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered.
Sadness was close by so Love asked, "Sadness, let me go with you."
"Oh . . . Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!"
Happiness passed by Love, too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her.
Suddenly, there was a voice, "Come, Love, I will take you." It was an elder. So blessed and overjoyed, Love even forgot to ask the elder where they were going. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way. Realizing how much was owed the elder,
Love asked Knowledge, another elder, "Who Helped me?"
"It was Time," Knowledge answered.
"Time?" asked Love. "But why did Time help me?"
Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "Because only Time is capable of understanding how valuable Love is."

Sometimes, we feel that our goals are so hard to be reached. We have experienced how the obstacles have made us stressed, frustrated, and depressed. It seemed that we couldn't bear it any longer. We wanted to quit. Furthermore, sometimes, we even did some negative things as an escape.
An obstacle, something which is usually called as "a problem", is the reality of life that we have to face with a brave heart. Learning how to overcome a problem in order to find the best solution will gradually make ourself a better person. For the problem will remain still unless we can handle it wisely, so, don't ever think to run away from it.
If you feel such uncomfortable feelings right now, just take a deep breath and convince yourself that you can do it and you have all the power you need to conquer it. In addition, you have to be determined and persistent. Don't ever give up! Keep on trying until you get the expected result.
Below is a true story about two American men who could put their idea into realization. A father and his son, John Roebling and Washington, who were known by their determination and persistence. The distinguished people who could make their dream, which seemed impossible by everybody, came true. Their never-say-die attitude in building the spectacular Brooklyn Bridge, hopefully, will be both great inspiration and motivation for us to struggle against all odds.

The Story of the Brooklyn Bridge
In 1883, a creative engineer named John Roebling was inspired by an idea to build a spectacular bridge connecting New York with the Long Island. However bridge building experts throughout the world thought that this was an impossible feat and told Roebling to forget the idea. It just could not be done. It was not practical. It had never been done before.
Roebling could not ignore the vision he had in his mind of this bridge. He thought about it all the time and he knew deep in his heart that it could be done. He just had to share the dream with someone else. After much discussion and persuasion he managed to convince his son Washington, an up and coming engineer, that the bridge in fact could be built.
Working together for the first time, the father and son developed concepts of how it could be accomplished and how the obstacles could be overcome. With great excitement and inspiration, and the headiness of a wild challenge before them, they hired their crew and began to build their dream bridge.
The project started well, but when it was only a few months underway a tragic accident on the site took the life of John Roebling. Washington was injured and left with a certain amount of brain damage, which resulted in him not being able to walk or talk or even move.
"We told them so.""Crazy men and their crazy dreams.""It`s foolish to chase wild visions."
Everyone had a negative comment to make and felt that the project should be scrapped since the Roeblings were the only ones who knew how the bridge could be built. In spite of his handicap Washington was never discouraged and still had a burning desire to complete the bridge and his mind was still as sharp as ever.
He tried to inspire and pass on his enthusiasm to some of his friends, but they were too daunted by the task. As he lay on his bed in his hospital room, with the sunlight streaming through the windows, a gentle breeze blew the flimsy white curtains apart and he was able to see the sky and the tops of the trees outside for just a moment.
It seemed that there was a message for him not to give up. Suddenly an idea hit him. All he could do was move one finger and he decided to make the best use of it. By moving this, he slowly developed a code of communication with his wife.
He touched his wife's arm with that finger, indicating to her that he wanted her to call the engineers again. Then he used the same method of tapping her arm to tell the engineers what to do. It seemed foolish but the project was under way again.
For 13 years Washington tapped out his instructions with his finger on his wife's arm, until the bridge was finally completed. Today the spectacular Brooklyn Bridge stands in all its glory as a tribute to the triumph of one man's indomitable spirit and his determination not to be defeated by circumstances. It is also a tribute to the engineers and their team work, and to their faith in a man who was considered mad by half the world. It stands too as a tangible monument to the love and devotion of his wife who for 13 long years patiently decoded the messages of her husband and told the engineers what to do.

LEARNING HOW TO LEARN EFFECTIVELY

Once you want to learn something effectively, you should choose and implement certain study skills and strategies that suit you best. Don't you know why? Those will give you an opportunity to approach learning tasks systematically and independently. By always using good study habits—learning to work smarter—you will work like and become a successful student.

These steps can help you find out the study skills and strategies you will need to learn various subjects:

Learn To Learn
Learning is a very personal matter. There isn't one study/learning skill or strategy that works for every person in every situation. Therefore, learning to learn strategies are about learning what you know, learning what you don't know, and learning what to do about it. As a result, your learning strategies will give you some benefits:

a. enable you to take more responsibility for your own learning
b. allow you to spend your time effectively and stay on task
c. help you select the best approach(s) for each assignment or task
d. provide you with the knowledge and skills needed
e. present you with access to a variety of content and reference materials
f. give you the confidence to know when and who to ask for help

Know Yourself
Begin by honestly assessing your strengths and weaknesses in basic college skills—reading, writing, listening, and mathematics—and study/work habits such as as organization, time management, concentration, listening, and note taking.
Next, identify your learning style preferences. Many factors affect learning, but consider whether you learn most effectively by reading, by watching, by listening, or by doing? You must also become familiar with your instructors teaching styles to help you adapt your learning style to the best advantage.
In addition, consider when (Are you a morning person or a night owl?) and where (Do you concentrate best in a bright room with noise or in a cozy, quiet corner?) you are at your best for learning.

Manage Your Time and Life
The first step in learning to manage your time—controlling your own life—is to identify what your goals are and then to establish priorities to help you reach them.
Analyze how you are using your time. If you aren't spending time on your priorities, you must make the necessary adjustments or you won't reach your goals. If school, learning, and good grades are a priority, then you must make and follow a schedule that gives a significant amount of time to go to class and study.

Improve Your Concentration
As a good student, you will not necessarily study more than a poor student, but you will definitely use your study time more effectively.
Learn to keep your attention focused on the task at hand—concentrate. When you are in class or ready to study, give it your full attention.
And remember, how well you learn something, not how fast you learn it, is the critical factor in remembering. You must "get" something before you can "forget" it.

Know What Study Means & How To Do It
Learning takes more than just going to class and doing homework. It is really a four-part cycle:
preview>>class>>review>>study When you establish a learning-cycle routine you will be able to learn more in less time with less stress.

Develop A Thinker's Vocabulary
English is the richest language with the largest vocabulary on earth. Each of our words is a symbol that represents an idea or object. Your ability to understand the meaning of the words others use and to select the right one(s) to communicate your ideas, information, and feelings is very important to effective learning.
To develop a thinker's vocabulary, you must become sensitive to words and develop strategies for unlocking the meanings of new words and a process for remembering the new words and their meanings.

Become An Active Reader
Did you ever fall asleep while playing tennis or when watching your favorite television show?
Probably not. How about when you're reading?
Probably so. What makes the difference?
If you are actively involved, physically and mentally, you stay interested and committed.
To learn from study/reading material, you must be an active, thinking participant in the process. Always preview the reading and make sure you have a specific purpose for each assignment. Read actively to fulfill your purpose and answer questions about the material. Keep involved by giving yourself frequent tests over what you've read.

Become An Active Writer
Writing that accurately expresses your ideas demands not only writing skill but focused attention, critical thinking and active involvement. Only if you become actively involved in the writing process will you be able to communicate your ideas clearly.

Build Listening & Note taking Skills
Accurately listening to a lecture and deciding what is important are two skills that must be mastered before you worry about how to write the information in your notes. Again, being an active rather than a passive participant is the key to your success.

Know How To Study For & Take Exams
Exams are your way to show a professor how much you've learned. Preparing for exams will give you a better understanding of the material, lower your anxiety, and improve your scores.
Find out as much as you can about the exam, study and review the material over a period of time (use the night before as a final review not a cram session), pace yourself during the exam, and always go over your graded exam with your professor.

Master Every Course
You can't get something for nothing. You can, however, get nothing for something and that's exactly what you will get from any course if your only investment is money.
True education is not about cramming material into your brain. True education is the process of expanding your capabilities, of bringing yourself into the world.

A GOOD TEACHER

Teaching a child is not such an easy thing. We should be a caring and a patient person in addition to be smart in delivering the lesson. Unless, we'll make ourselves get into trouble. Here is a funny story happened in the kindergarten class.

One day, a teacher was attempting to teach the names of animals to a class of 5-year-olds. She held up a picture of a deer, and asked one boy, "Billy, what is this animal?". Little Billy looked at the picture with a disheartened look on his face and responded, "I'm sorry Mrs. Smith, I don't know.". The teacher was not one to give up easily, so she then asked Billy, "Well, Billy, what does your Mommy call your Daddy?" Little Billy's face suddenly brightened up, but then a confused look came over his face, as he asked, "Mrs. Smith, is that really a pig?"!

Learning English Super-Fast

Many people wants to be able to speak English fluently, not only to communicate to foreigners but also to develop their insight. That's why I offer an alternative way to learn English in a fast and effective way.
Learn English by focusing on content, not grammar.
What do I mean by content? I mean, learn English by focusing on meaningful communication and meaningful information.
Most schools, and most students, focus on the mechanics of the language. They study verb conjugations. They study the “rules” of prepositions. They analyze the language as if it was a dead thing.
All of these traditional methods are analytical.
But English is not a dead thing to analyze- it is a living language. It is a means of communication.
Your brain is naturally fantastic at learning languages. Your brain is created to learn languages. But you must learn in ways that are friendly to your brain.
If you bore your brain with rules, you will learn slowly. If you try to analyze the language, you will learn slowly. If you try to memorize vocabulary, you will learn slowly. If you study textbooks and take tests, you will learn slowly.
Your brain is a super-fast English learning machine– use it correctly and you will learn super-fast!
Here’s how to make your brain happy and learn English fast:
Learn with stories. Our brains love stories– its the oldest, most natural form of communication.
Focus on meaning, not form. In other words, don’t worry about grammar rules. Focus instead on understanding and being understood.
Listen to the music of English carefully. To improve pronunciation, listen very carefully to the intonation of English speakers– pretend you are listening to music.
Choose content you love. Only listen to and read English content that is interesting, meaningful, or funny to you. If you don’t enjoy it– find something else!
Read easy novels, not textbooks. Again, the brain loves stories and hates boring drills. Burn your textbooks… read easy, fun, interesting English novels instead. Read a lot of them!
Make friends, join a community. English is for communication– so communicate with other English speakers! Forget about mistakes. Forget about grammar. Just relax and communicate!
By smiling, having fun, and focusing on meaningful content, you will make your brain happy. And a happy brain learns very fast.
Use these brain friendly strategies to increase your English speaking improvement 2-4 times faster.
Enjoy and speak excellent English!
